The Flower and Plant Festival
Malahat, boasting the largest greenhouse complex in the production and cultivation of ornamental plants, is renowned as the “Holland of Iran.” This city serves as a primary hub for the production and distribution of natural flowers and plants in Iran, situated amidst picturesque hillsides and far from pollution-emitting factories, earning it the moniker of the “mythical paradise.” Malahat has a long-standing history in the production of ornamental flowers and plants in Asia, thus holding a prominent position in exports and securing markets globally.
Since 2000, the Flower and Plant Festival has been annually held for enthusiasts of natural flowers and plants, spanning three or four days in early Shahrivar (the sixth month of the Persian calendar). This event, initially showcasing a beautiful exhibition alongside various activities, has been relocated from Shahrivar to Ordibehesht (the second month of the Persian calendar) due to the favorable climate in spring and the increased diversity and longevity of flowers. People from this province, as well as other cities in Iran, and foreign visitors from neighboring countries and some European nations like the Netherlands, flock to Malahat every year for the purpose of visiting and purchasing flowers and plants.
The exhibition in other cities of Iran offers various types of direct sales and the presentation of different flowers and medicinal plants in various colors and flavors. It also includes representation of apartment flowers, cut flowers, garden flowers, and greenery, as well as related industries, production and maintenance equipment, education, flower design in different shapes, park equipment, and gardening machinery. Special programs are coordinated with the fair and joyful celebration events. The impact of this ceremony on the use of flowers and plants in different parts of the city is also evident. Introducing local flowers and plants through this festival has significantly contributed to promoting this region in Iran for tourism development and fostering economic, cultural, and social growth in this small city.
